A trail of colours, smells and memories.

Neshel the new piece by Yoram Karmi for Fresco Dance Group deals with the moments when we pick what to wear and accordingly try to define who we are. The work explores the way clothes and the lack of them defines ones identity.

On stage there are hundreds of items of vintage clothing and through them the show deals with the self descovery and revealing of the body and emotions, changing and developing of ones identity and the collecting of memories.

The idea for the piece originated after the death of Karmi's mother. While arranging her belongings he came across cupboards full of her clothes which she had saved over the years. Neshel is the hebrew word for the shedding of the skin in animals. While human beings do not shed skin, when they pass away what is left of them is their clothes; a trail of memories, smells and colours.
