Why Things Go Wrong

Artistic Dictor – Yoram Karmi

About the Work
A new dance creation for the Fresco Dance Company by the promising Czech choreographer Sylva Šafková.

The choreographer was invited to create a development of a duet originally created in Prague, this time for seven dancers. This is a socio-political work, rich in nuance and irony, that traces the main reason why so many things go wrong in our daily lives—as individuals, and even more so as parts of human society, with all its challenges.

From the text accompanying the performance:

I have come to the conclusion that there are three main reasons why things go wrong. Sometimes it is simply bad luck, and there is not much that can be done about it. At other times, it may be the result of a wrong decision. One can, of course, try to be smarter, more cautious, or more thoughtful,

but eventually we all reach the limits of our abilities. And that leaves us with the third reason why things go wrong—there is always someone involved who is an asshole.

Assholes are the most common reason things go wrong in our society.

There is no single trait that qualifies a person for the title “asshole,” and there are many kinds of assholes: a rude asshole, a condescending asshole, a presidential or political asshole, and many more…

It is safe to say: we are blessed here with a wide variety of assholes.
